This is a very simple way to maintain open channels with our allied guilds.

/cjoin valco

Then go into chat settings and enable the channel via a click box. It defaults to the same yellow color as your game information text - but you can change the color to anything you desire.

To type into the channel simply /4 and type your text or /valco if you already have a custom channel.

A couple of us have been using this channel lately. The only real downside is that it doesn't provide for cross-faction comms

The channel has to be reestablished after every server reset, but that is as easy as typing the command to join the channel.

One way I have personally used this in the past is to basically make the custom channel the guilds main "open" chat channel, so that people not in the guild can keep up with what we are doing in the event they want to tag along. Leaving the guild's game provided "closed" guild channel for guild specific comms.
